Negative Effects Of Imperialism - 850 Words

Imperialism is defined as the policy when a powerful nation seeks to dominate other countries politically, economically, or socially. Imperialism was mostly devised because of the nationalistic feelings that the industrial revolution produced. In my opinion, imperialism has had both good and harmful effects on the world. In some ways, it has brought modernization to countries that were stuck in their old ways. In some cases, I believe it would have been better to leave these countries alone, but I also think that in the long run, it ended up helping these countries become more advanced. On the other side of things, imperialism caused inner turmoil and conflicts within the borders of the countries. The industrial revolution also made people all over most specifically Europeans that their country was the best and that all other countries/cultures were inferior. I think that humans became inhumane during the Imperialism for many reasons. One of the reasons would be because the Europeans did not care about anyone but themselves while they were taking over other nations. For example, when Europe decided to take over Africa, the Europeans treated the Africans so poorly that pictures displayed the Africans as the Europeans pets, in doing this it created a superior feeling to all Europeans in relation to the Africans. Due to the feeling of superiority, children were even being exposed to the mistreatment of Africans; their parents would read them children books depicting Africans as people that were crazy and that they needed the Europeans help. People became so inhumane due to the simple fact that the Europeans did not think what they were doing was wrong and extremely degrading, they just believed that Africa or other countries needed their help to become more advanced.
